This is now a BYOB EVENT
Those of you who are paddling in Sunday's boat parade - come decorate your sea kayak this night. We will supply: sea kayaks, a nice warm, holiday garage to decorate, some snacks and booze. You need to bring your holiday spirit and decorations for your kayak.
Oh you are not paddling? No matter - come help everyone get into the spirit by helping to decorate anyway.
When we are done decorating - we may head to one of the local drinking establishment to stay in the holiday spirit.
To be clear:
There is NO paddling at this event - just decorating and getting into the holiday spirit!
UPDATE:
Boat Parade Kayakers!
It's getting closer and closer and we're getting ready to decorate the kayaks for the boat parade.
There's no requirement that you decorate your kayak, but most participants in the parade make some effort to look festive. Decorations, lights, costumes, even music are often part of people's plans.
SCOA will have some basic items available to use in decorating: tape, tools, cardboard, zip-lock bags for waterproofing batterys and other critical items, and lots of well-lighted space in which to work. Beyond that it's mostly up to you. Here are some thoughts and suggestions so you can get the most out of it.
Avoid anything fragile or really sensitive to salt water. The canals are calm and shallow, and I have never seen a kayak flip over, but things get bumped and splashed, especially at the put in and take out. This would not be the right place to use your fragile family heirloom Christmas decorations or a diffiuclt to clean Santa outfit! Also, avoid anything that is too heavy as we do need to carry the kayaks and they do need to float. Plastic, synthetic and cheap and disposable/biodegradable tend to be good ideas. Fortunately, pretty much everything is available in a plastic version these days and often these are quite inexpensive. Styrofoam and cardboard are great construction materials that can be reused/recycled later. (Anybody want to build a ski hill on the back of a kayak?)
Needless to say, lighting must be battery powered. We have a small number of short battery-powered strings of lights but not enough for everybody. These can be purchased $3-6 each at Home Depot, Target and anyplace else that sells a good selection of lights (last year Walgreens had them on special for $1.99!). There are also battery-powered candles of various sorts and some other battery-powered decorations. Most "solar powered" decorations and light strings will also be fine, you'll just need to charge them up by leaving them in the sun prior to the parade and protect the battery pack with a zip-lock. Some floats manage to use a lot more lighting, usually by bringing along a deep-cycle battery and power inverter. If you have that kind of equipment, bring it along.
Finally, if you want us to have our own soundtrack and have a battery-powered system on which to play it, feel free to bring it along.
If any of you want to pre-plan what you're going to bring or share, please use the event discussion.

Ugh, I want to apologize if anybody got here and couldn't get in. I didn't realize that Chris didn't list my name, without which you can't figure out how to get in. There's a sign out there now, but I think too late...
Chris already posted my long-winded details above, so I won't repeat except to say:
Bring anything you think will be useful for decorating a kayak that is likely to get wet with Salt Water. Cheap, disposable, or both tend to be good ideas.
Depending on people's interests and desires, we may order food in, but will not plan anything in advance.
