Beginners Canyoneering!

Overview:
Imagine hiking up a mountain trail that parallels a deep canyon, where down below you hear water flowing over the rocky canyon bottom. You reach a point where the trail crosses the stream. After dressing for the descent, you begin following the watercourse down canyon, dealing with obstacles as they come. Ropes, harnesses and specialized training become the method of travel as you rappel off waterfalls. You may swim, wade or downclimb as you hike your way through the canyon. This is Canyoneering!

What is included?
Everything you need to safely canyoneer + a cool SCOA T-shirt. If you have a favorite helmet or harness or other gadget, feel free to bring it. Our guides will look at it and make a determination if you can use it or not.

What do I need to bring?
* Clothes to get wet in, and dry clothes for after the course
* Small day pack to carry personal belongings
* Sturdy closed-toe hiking shoes
* Waterproof sunscreen
* Sunglasses
* Hat or beanie
* Water - 3 liters recommended
* High calorie lunch

How do I prepare for this?

Don't think you can go out the night before and get 'big'. While this event isn't strenuous, it will demand your constant attention. Arrive rested and hydrated.

But I have never rock climbed before!
This course is perfect for beginners without any rope or harness experience, or for those that have been through a few canyon routes but without proper training. This year-round sport does not require the same physical fitness levels as rock climbing. You need to be fit enough to hike one to three miles up a trail, and then be able to make your way down a canyon. Rappelling by itself is a relatively easy activity where you get to enjoy the beauty of the canyon as you rappel down a waterfall!

What's next?

Sign up! We need a minimum of twelve + 1 :-) people for this event to fly!
With everyone signed up, we will work with the vendor to firm up exact time and location (Mt. Baldy area) of our adventure! Ideally we will be carpooling from the 210 freeway at Baseline - more when we have an event.

This event isn't for everyone but I promise you will have a kick-@$$ time. Like all SCOA events, we will be taking pictures and grabbing video when and where possible.

Cost: $165/person
