Weekend trip to Mammoth

No location was chosen

Sorry, trip is now full

However, please feel free to sign up on the waiting list in case somone cancels.

Join me for a for a weekend trip to Mammoth, my favorite ski resort in California. Mammoth is much larger than any local resort and large enough that you can always find areas that are less crowded, which means more skiing and less waiting in line. It offers great runs for skiers and boarders of all ability levels and there is plenty to do in town as well.

The Plan:
We will carpool up to Mammoth Lakes Friday evening and return Sunday night. This will give us two whole fun-filled days of skiing/snowboarding. After skiing on Saturday we’ll drive up to Mono Lake and look at the amazing tufas (optional). After skiing on Sunday we’ll grab some dinner at a local restaurant (optional) and head home.

Accommodations:
I have reserved a condo in Mammoth Lakes which accommodates 10 people, centrally located in town. See booking description. It is relatively spacious at 1500 sqft, has two assigned parking spaces, and it offers access to sauna and spa as well. The condo provides the following sleeping arrangements:

- Master bedroom with a king size bed (not queen as stated in ad), full size closet, TV, and private bathroom.

- Second bedroom with a king size bed (not queen as stated in ad).

- 4 twin size beds (no bunks) on the loft.

- 1 queen size inflatable mattress with linens included (to be provided).

- A large sofa (see picture, bring your own linens/blanket/sleeping bag). You may also bring your own inflatable mattress if you prefer.

NOTE:
Everyone is on the waiting list initially until I have received a check for the desired sleeping option you prefer. When you sign up on the waiting list, I will email you the address to send the check to, provided there are still spots available. If I cannot accommodate you the check will be returned. Only sign up on the waiting list if you are sure you want to come and ready to send the check.

Confirmed Participants:
The list below gets updated as soon as I receive the checks.

Master bedroom: Derald
Master bedroom: Derald's girlfriend
Second bedroom: Jennifer
Second bedroom: Danielle
Twin size bed: Stein
Twin size bed: MJ
Twin size bed: Vladimir
Twin size bed: Liz
Inflatable mattress: Karl
Sofa/own mattress: Graciela

Cancellation & Refund:
If you cancel, there is no refund unless there are someone else willing to take your spot (it has to be paid or it comes out of my pocket). I'll do what I can though to find someone else.

Equipment Rental:
Click here for Mammoth resort rental. There are plenty of rental places in town as well. At Sport Chalet you get skis, boots, and poles for $25 for the first day and $18 for the second day and you can pick it up on Friday and drop it off on Monday at no extra charge.

Carpooling:
As parking is very limited in the area and we only have two spots reserved for the condo we need to carpool as much as possible. The best option would be if we could fit everyone in two cars. Anyone with SUVs? Chains might be necessary as well. We'll discuss the options once it is clear who is coming and what vehicles we have available.

Food etc.:
The condo has a full kitchen so feel free to bring anything you like to prepare. I am open to suggestions. We may order in, go out to eat, have a dinner party. Anything you guys would like. Feel free to discuss any ideas below.

Also, Please Note:
- No smoking in condo or on balcony.
- Quiet time is 10 PM.
- Check out is at noon Sunday.

IMPORTANT:
Skiing and snowboarding are inherently risky sports. As event organizers we assume absolutely no responsibility for you or your equipment. We are simply "ski-buddies", nothing more. If you choose to participate you assume all risk involved. Also:

- Helmet is recommended, especially for more advanced skiing/boarding.
- Don’t forget sunscreen. You burn fast in the snow.
- If you have two-way radios, bring them.

Karl, sure, floor is fine if you prefer no mattress. That would be the $20 "sofa or not" option ;-) Accomodating more than 10 people though is not an option as apparently that is a serious offence accoring to the rental agreement.

In term of carpooling we'll get a better picture when we have 10 confirmed participants (only have 6 checks so far). If you are willing to drive perhaps write down here where you live, what kind of car you have, and how many passengers it holds.

As for me I live in North Hills in the Valley, near the 405, 5, and 118 freeways. I am willing to drive but I have a Passat sedan which is not that big. If I mount the skis on the roof I can probably take 3 passengers max. I do have chains as well.

As for now it looks like I'll be carpooling with Jennifer, Danielle, and possibly Graciella. We'll see what makes the most sense once we have a better picture of who's coming, who's driving, and where you all live.

I'm in Sherman Oaks. I'd like to carpool since my car isn't good in the snow.

As I mentioned in the email, I think perhaps the easiest thing is just for us all to meet at my place and we'll figure out the best way to carpool. Most likely snow won't be a problem. The roads to Mammoth are pretty busy so after a couple of days of sunshine they'll be dry. I've never needed chains up there so far at least.

For those on the waiting list. Even if you don't get on the trip you're welcome to join us up there for our activites and skiing etc. I just won't have accomodations for you so you'd need to arrange that on your own. There may still be good deals up there on condos. Also, Bishop is always an alternative and a lot less expensive in geneal. It's about 45 minutes away. I'd love to have you join us. The more the merrier.

Frank and I skied Mammoth yesterday, Thursday. It was an amazing Blue Bird Day. The best snow we found was on the top of the mountain, Chairs 14 and 5. ENJOY!

Ok, so I just could not stay away. The draw of the slopes was too great. I felt fine so I just hopped in the car and drove up thinking I might be regretting it soon. However I still feel fine so I am not sure if I actually got the flu, something else, or it has not really hit me yet. Hope it is not the latter. In any case it was a fabulous weekend in Mammoth, great weather, hardly any wind, and the snow was great. I think we had a great bunch of people as well. The condo was ok, but did not quite live up to the promises. They promised an extra air mattress, but they left it un-inflated with no pump. Not too useful. The towels were dirty and still in the washer. I ended up staying in Bishop though. All in all, I think it was a great trip though.

The weather was beautiful and I don't think I stopped laughing the whole time. I had a blast! Thanks Stein for organizing this and Jennifer for pulling the strings together the night before.
