EXPLORER Hike: Upper Millard Canyon/ Mt. Wilson area 10.6 miles

This location is shown only to members

Got New Year's Resolutions?

Thinking about taking on bigger activity challenges?

Well- here is your opportunity to explore, exercise and enjoy nature!

We will be exploring the "Upper Millard Canyon" Hike/ Mt. Wilson area.
Distance: 10.6 miles
Total Elevation Gain/Loss: 2700'/2700'
Hiking time: 6 hours
Difficulty: Moderate/ Strenuous

You will be part of the explorer team... it's a new hike for me and I am excited to take the challenge with you.

!!NEW!!We will meet at 8:45am at Angeles Crest Rideshare (Milmada Dr & Angeles Crest Hwy La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011). I will e-mail you my cell phone# before the event.

Note: You will NEED an adventure pass. They are sold at sporting good stores e.g. REI. ($5.00 per car) Check out this website: http://www.fs.fed.us/...

Preview: Hidden from the metropolis by Sunset Ridge, lush Millard Canyon is one of the more secluded spots in the front range of the San Gabriels. A cold stream tumbling over handsome boulders, a trail meandering beneath a canopy of alder, oak and sycamore, a waterfall and a historic mine, are some of Millard’s attractions.

The hike will take us over the Sunset Ridge, along Millard Canyon's south wall, passing above the 50'-high falls, descend to Millard Canyon's stream, up to Dawn mine. Upstream, following narrow switchbacks to Tom Sloan Saddle atop the high ridge shared by Brown Mountain and Mt. Lowe. The path will take us through the "grand canyon", just wide enough for hikers, tunneling through tall chaparral. We will follow Mt. Lowe fire road, past a couple of hairpin turns to Cape of Good Hope.

**Please make sure to bring plenty of water and lunch/ snacks and a rain/wind jacket as we will be hiking for about 6 hours with lots of elevation gains. ***

Disclaimer: Kindly note that every participant hikes on their own risk and is responsible for their own actions. The organizer is simply your "hiking buddy" bringing same minded people together to enjoy outdoor activities.

Carpooling suggested. Please plan time to obtain the Adventure pass. Either in advance or locally in the morning. (I live in Santa Monica--- I can take 1 passenger or would be happy to hop in a carpool & share gas with someone else)

You've done the hike and have suggestions/ notes? - Feel free to send me a note! :-)

I added 5 more spots to this hike (and moved Carlos and Karl to "Yes"), but I think that will be the max. I just want to make sure that we can all stick together and have a good time!
