First timers to seasoned paddlers, we get you outfitted and exploring the 15 miles of protected waters in the beautiful Morro Bay Estuary/Bird Sanctuary just a few minutes after we park. The Central Coast and San Luis Obispo county`s most beautiful location. Morro Bay is composed of 2300 acres of mud flats, eelgrass beds, tidal wetlands and open water. Two dozen threatened or endanger species live in the area including the Peregrine Falcon, Brandt Goose, Brown Pelican, Sea Otter and Snowy Plovers. Morro Bay is a major West Coast wintering area for over 100 species of birds providing year around bird watching opportunities. Its waters are home to California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals, which use the mud flats as a hauling out area. Many type of marine invertabrates and fish are also abundant in the bay. The sand spit, which forms Morro Bay, is an excellent place to walk among the dunes, beachcomb, picnic or simply enjoy the solitude of over five miles of quiet beach. Easy flat-water access from our dock coupled with the abundance of nature make Morro Bay THE ideal kayaking destination.

We can carpool or all go in our Honda Pilot with the kayaks in tow. Low Tide is at 7AM with High Tide around noon enabling us to paddle 'in-land' in the morning and letting the tide bring us back in the afternoon.
At the very least this is a long day trip. If there is interest we could rent a hotel or camp overnight. We could also bring bikes and make it a multi-activity and multi-destination event. When you RSVP in the comments let us know your preference.

The Plan: Depart Dock 52 in Marina Del Rey at 6AM. Arrive Morro Bay around 10AM. We will paddle from 10:30AM until 3PM or until everyone has had their fill. We will depart for LA around 4PM.

What's Included: transportation from Marina Del Rey to Morrow Bay, lunch (two sandwiches, chips fruit and gatorade/water), sea kayak with seat, paddle and PFD.

What to bring: Layers of light to mid weight clothing that can be easily removed or added are recommended. Fabrics such as synthetic or fleece provide great insulation even when wet. Try to steer clear of cotton or jeans as they take too long to dry. Shorts and T-shirts are okay on warm days but Morro Bay can cool off suprisingly fast. Old sneakers, waters shoes, and sandals work best for footwear. Hats and sunglasses are also advisable.

Cost: $94.37

Sign Ups: We need a minimum of 6 paddlers to sign up before this event is a go.

Paddlers with their own kayaks: can come for free. If you need transportation we can work that out off-line.

What a cool idea! I have been wanting to do more sea kayaking lately...and a road trip, too! I'd be interested in a kayak / bike multi-day event with camping or an inexpensive hotel. Probably a hot shower would be in order after the kayak excursion...?

Rosemary, I'd be up for a kayak/bike overnight sometime in the spring too! Moro bay area is cool, but lots of other locations would work too.

I agree with Rosemary. How about staying overnight and do something else the following day? Just feel it is too much driving for one day. How about visiting the elephant seal colony a little further up the coast. It is really cool. Let's look into mountain biking in the area as well. It's just beautiful up there.

I'm OK with an overnight stay. Maybe some biking somewhere along the coast on the way back? Not really familiar with what's there. Totally cool with either camp or inexpensive hotel.
