"As Chris is getting his adventure on in South America with some very lucky SCOA members, I am thinking of embarking on a once in a lifetime journey to the land of lions to summit the world's largest free standing volcano. ... MoreThis October, I and a few friends will be traveling to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro, safari in the Serengeti and then unwind on the island of Zanzibar. I'll open this up to the SCOA membership shortly - as soon as I work out all the details. So far, the Kili summit will take about 7 days and will cost about $1,800. Summit day will be about 12-15 hours of climbing/hiking and brings you to the top at 19,340 feet. Imagine sipping tea as the sun wakes up all of Africa below you! Last day takes you down the mountain by lunch time. You can go home or continue to leg #2. Our Safari will cover the Serengeti, Tarangire park, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater and a few other spots. Mid-range lodgings include a mobile tent site in the middle of the Serengeti! I am excited to hear elephants trumpet and lions roar as I sleep in my tent! This leg will cost about $3,500. 8 days with the last day returning to the starting point near the JRO airport or a direct flight to the next stop. Once again, you can go home from here or pick up leg #3. Zanzibar - a tropical island where we'll unwind with some beach time! Diving, snorkeling and swimming with dolphins are on the agenda for those who still have the energy. This leg is looking like $1,000 for 4 days. NOTE: I am not a travel guide and if you come, you will pay the vendors directly! I have booked this trip as a PRIVATE tour and will be glad to share with a few of you. The pricing indicated is not set in stone and will change once all the details are sorted out. The pricing will be better if we have more people joining us. The maximum number I am looking at is 8. As it stands, there are possibly 4 of us. QUESTIONS: save them or Google it. I will post the event as more details are sorted. Later Days Stephen "
